The term “all-nighter” has a little different meaning at the Coast Guard Academy.
“There have been times when I was working on a group lab report in our engineering building, late into the night,” said senior goalie Trey Johnson, “and then we had practice at 5 in the morning. I’d go straight from doing the lab report to practice.”
Located right on the water in New London, Conn. — lacrosse players literally could throw a ball into the Thames River from the edge of the athletic fields — the Coast Guard Academy offers a different way of life for its student-athletes, who are labeled cadets and walk a tighter line than those who attend civilian schools.
