EAST HARTFORD, Conn. -- A fast-paced semifinal between North Carolina and Virginia was exactly what everyone expected, but no one predicted the late-game madness that this game provided.
The fourth-seeded Cavs will return to the championship game to defend their 2019 title thanks to a 12-11 victory over the top-ranked Tar Heels, despite two turnovers and a save in the final minute.
Several local players featured in the dramatic victory for both teams. One of the standouts for the Cavaliers was former Merrimack player Charlie Bertrand, who made his mark early on as a facilitator, driving from X and distributing the ball whenever he was marked by a short stick. Bertrand finished with two goals but added three groundballs from the midfield slot.
