Some great professional athletes have made huge position changes that have benefited their careers immensely. Most famously, in this region, Julian Edelman went from being a college quarterback to a star with the New England Patriots.
You see it in regularly lacrosse, but mainly it's just a long-stick midfielder switching from close defense, or an attackman playing midfield every now and then. You rarely see a player switch which side of the ball he plays on, and at a high level no less.
This is how Brody Helton went from being a high school long-pole to a Division 1 offensive recruit.
Helton had grown up playing club for the New Hampshire Tomahawks as a long-pole, but everything changed when he got to Bedford (N.H.) High School. Returning a lot of players on defense meant that there wasn’t going to be a lot of playing time for Brody on defense during his freshman year.
