Why Tommy Sarni of St. John’s Prep chose Providence

For a long time, Tommy Sarni wanted to be a college hockey player.

Never mind that his father played lacrosse in college. Or that older brother KJ is doing that, too, as a junior attack at Clarkson.

Playing both sports since he was young, Sarni came to realize that lacrosse offered him a chance to go farther than hockey did.

“My goal was to play Division 1 hockey,” he said. “I just wasn’t big enough. After a while I decided to go all-in on lacrosse.”

Going all-in has produced a significant achievement for the St. John’s Prep (Mass.) junior, who on Monday made a verbal commitment to join the program at Providence College.
