With the defection of the New England Black Wolves from Mohegan Sun to Albany, N.Y., a few years ago, there has been a dearth of professional box lacrosse in New England.
However, an upstart league aims to fill that vacuum with a model that is similar to Canada’s semipro Senior A and Senior B leagues.
The Pro Box Lacrosse Association announced its formation earlier this summer. Under the development of former NLL and NHL executives like commissioner Steve Donner, franchises have been designated to the upstate New York and the Tri-State areas as well as Virginia, North Carolina and New England.
Donner has a lengthy history of working in the sports industry with the NHL’s Buffalo Sabres, as well as the NLL’s Rochester Knighthawks franchise.
