US Lacrosse invites 11 locals for U-19 national team tryouts

Also 13 players from outside the region who are committed to colleges within New England

By Jonathan SigalMay 20, 2019

Collin Almeida, a Penn State commit, got the call.

Of over 300 applicants, US Lacrosse and head coach Nick Myers have called in 105 players from throughout the country to tryout for the U.S. U-19 national team. Eleven players from New England were on the list, which was generated from those that applied.

The 2020 team will eventually be narrowed down to 23 players and look to defend a championship July 9-18, 2020 in Limerick, Ireland. The Americans are the only team to win a U-19 world championship, with now-Virginia midfielder Ryan Conrad providing a game-winner against Canada in 2016.

The first round of tryouts will be held in Sparks, Md., from June 21-23, with the field then narrowed down to about 50 players for a second round of tryouts from July 12-14. The roster will then be whittled down to 30 for training weekends in November 2019 and January 2020.

Here's a look at all the locals called in, as well as the 13 players from outside the region who are committed to colleges within New England. To be eligible, all players needed to be born within Sept. 1, 2000 and July 8, 2004.
