ACTON, Mass. -- Acton-Boxborough (Mass.) High School was the first team in the MIAA Division 1 playoffs to punch its ticket to the final four with a win over longtime rival Lincoln-Sudbury, 15-7, on Friday night.
Behind strong performances by St. Lawrence commit Cam Matthews and UMass commit Tyler Clayton, the third-seeded Colonials scored early and often, keeping sixth-seeded Lincoln-Sudbury's at arm's length all game long.
By the end of the weekend, the semifinals were set. A-B will take on No. 2 BC High on Tuesday, while top-seeded St. John's Prep gets No. 5 Hingham.
Acton-Boxborough started the game with three quick unanswered goals to get the ball rolling with contributions from Matthews and midfielder Clayton. For much of the first half, the Colonials proved to be the more physical team on the field, something Matthews knew the team had to bring to win on Friday night.
