How to earn a scholarship: UMass Lowell’s Daniel Cozzi shares advice

Daniel Cozzi (Reading, Mass.) knew what he wanted, and although he hit a bump in the road early, he ultimately got there. It made his path to a scholarship unconventional, but he couldn’t be happier with his final decision.

“I was not heavily recruited in any sort of way,” he said. “I didn’t make any highlight videos. I didn’t reach out myself to many coaches. I got a bunch of emails from schools, and when I saw UMass Lowell, I stopped answering anyone else and fully committed to them.”

Cozzi earned a spot on the Reading High School boys varsity lacrosse team his freshman season, but he didn’t get to play a single game due to a dislocated knee. That left him overlooked by college coaches early in the recruiting process.
