When Quint Moores and Eric Brockett founded Coyotes Lacrosse in 2013, they wanted to instill one pivotal value in the foundation of their program.
“We were one of the only clubs that wasn’t forcing the kids to commit to an all-year-round club sport,” Moores said. “And that was one of the things that, when we initially started the program, we had a lot of hockey-first kids.”
Consider the fall season, where multiple sports are in full swing. Football and soccer are in-season. Hockey and basketball are ramping up off-season activities before winter arrives. In an era where one-sport specialization is becoming more popular, the Coyotes still rely on their fundamental principles.
“I think it’s healthier for the kids to be able to do other things as well,” Moores said. “Hockey players make great lacrosse players.”
But as players get older, the Upton, Mass.,-based club’s approach to year-round training is among the most comprehensive in the region.
