What’s next for Merrimack after D-1 conference realignment?

By NELJ StaffMay 10, 2022

Coach Mike Morgan and Merrimack are seeking a new conference affiliation for the 2023 season. (Merrimack Athletics)

At least for now, the men’s lacrosse program at Merrimack College is without a conference affiliation.

The Northeast Conference, where the majority of Merrimack’s varsity sports teams compete, announced on Monday it would no longer be sponsoring men’s lacrosse, at least in the 2022-23 school year.

The change does not apply to women’s lacrosse in the NEC, which this season counted four programs from the region – Merrimack, Bryant, Sacred Heart and Central Connecticut State – as members.

The decision follows some active and recent Division 1 realignment in men's lacrosse, both in and outside New England.
