When it comes to diamonds in the rough, the size of the diamond isn’t everything.
Entering his sophomore year at Concord-Carlisle (Mass.) High School, faceoff specialist/midfielder Conor Trant estimated his size at “5-foot-5 and about 130 pounds” -- not a build that would turn many heads in Division 1.
Not that it kept him from making an impact at his own level. As a freshman, he’d played his way into a larger role as the season went on, taking -- and winning -- some key faceoffs in the Division 2 championship game against Reading, a 13-9 loss.
His role increased as a sophomore and he would have been a major player as a junior if COVID-19 hadn’t erased spring sports. He also made the decision to reclassify into the Class of 2022, and will do a postgraduate year after he finishes up as a senior next spring.
