College coaches are looking at the portal as a big part of their recruiting strategy because some of the players who are available have more than just one year to commit to their squad. It’s not exactly the wild, wild west that it’s proclaimed to be - but it’s not far off.
That extra year has spurred several players to pursue graduate degrees and new opportunities at schools that they had never even considered. The best part of that is that the talent is being more evenly disseminated.
