For the first time in program history, the BFA-St. Albans girls won the state championship in what was a thrilling 10-9 victory over Burr and Burton.
When the final horn sounded, head coach Mary Pipes had one thought:
“Hallelujah.”
“My current team just refused to lose,” she said. “No matter what, they were going to come out on top. We were down in our semifinal game against Champlain Valley Union (12-7) with less than eight minutes in the game. Any other team would have just given up at that point, but not this one. These girls have heart, and they are not quitters.”
