If Essex (Vt.) girls lacrosse coach Skip Harris had one word to describe his team in 2024, it would be this:
Resilient.
In 2022, the team went 1-14-1. Two years later, it earned the top seed in the Division 1 state tournament and got to celebrate its first championship after a 12-3 victory over Champlain Valley Union in the final earlier this month.
Quite a turnaround.
“When you’re on the other end of those games, it just feels so great to know you put in the work to be on the winning side of those games,” said Harris. “The girls, they’ve had their ups and downs over their careers, and just the fact they can come out on top their senior year, it’s like a fairytale.”
