EAST HARTFORD, Conn. -- The Division 3 men's lacrosse championship was almost the upset that Union fans and pundits alike predicted.
Unfortunately for those parties, the game's wild momentum swung to the other side of the pendulum and RIT lifted its second-straight NCAA title, 12-10.
All three of Union’s goals in the first quarter were scored by Massachusetts natives, as the Dutchmen shot out to a 3-1 lead through the first 15 minutes. Midfielder Jack Donahue (Marlboro, Mass.), and senior attackmen Peter Burnes (Natick, Mass.) and Brian Davis (Deerfield, Mass.) were responsible for the first three Union tallies.
The Dutchmen kept the pressure up and the goals kept flowing. RIT even switched into a zone in the second quarter to try and stifle Union’s ball movement, but it just opened up new lanes to pass and shoot through. Multiple breaks were cut off and RIT looked to be searching for answers as the second quarter progressed into its latter stages.
