At 5-foot-2 and 112 pounds, Kate O’Rourke has always been looking for advantages that go beyond size.
Strength and conditioning rank high. Her father was a college lacrosse player at Air Force so she heard first-hand what needed to develop in her game if she was to achieve her dream of playing at the Division 1 level.
“We’d always discussed what I needed to improve on,” said the Franklin (Mass.) High School junior midfielder. “In eighth grade I started focusing on running and working out, and now it’s something I like to do.
“It’s really important when you’re smaller to be fast and strong. I work a lot on my fitness and my footwork.”
