Abby Cotraro was going all-out because that’s the only way she knows how to play.
Two years removed from a torn ACL in her left knee that sidelined her for eight frustrating months, Cotraro (Beverly, Mass.) was competing with her Mass Elite team at the Capital Cup in Virginia, on a less-than-perfect grass field, wearing her cleats because she didn’t want to forfeit an inch of advantage.
Playing defense as a midfielder, she saw an opponent cross the field with the ball and sprinted after her. She caught her and stopped the attack, and then fell awkwardly, her foot planting.
