For fans of Colby College lacrosse — and of Division 3 lacrosse in general — the passing of former Colby coach Jack Sandler can still be felt.
Sandler passed away from a sudden heart attack in November of 2015. After his passing, the Jack Sandler Leadership Foundation was founded to preserve his memory and “invest in the future of less advantaged student-athletes by providing scholarships to attend high-level lacrosse camps.”
To that end, one of the fundraising efforts is taking place Thursday as Skidmore — a school Sandler coached at for eight seasons — will open its season against Emerson at Rotch Field in Boston (5 p.m.).
For the season opener, the foundation is collecting pledges for goals scored combined by both teams.
