In the spring of 2019, freshman Liam Maher made the varsity lacrosse team at Melrose (Mass.) High School.
As exciting as it is to make varsity as a freshman, it could also be overwhelming. Playing against kids that are bigger than you and older than you, and even just trying to fit in with your new teammates, could be a lot to handle for any 15-year-old.
Fortunately for Maher, he already was very close with two of his new teammates — his two older brothers, Brendan and Ryan.
“To have three brothers on the team is a lot of fun and it's a good time,” Maher said. “I always felt more comfortable on the team, because I always knew I had them looking over me and pushing me and just getting me where I want to be, and it definitely paid off.”
