Editor’s note: This is the second part of a two-part feature on New England’s influence on the international game that ran in the November-December issue of New England Lacrosse Journal.
Another high-profile international scrimmage took place on a different Ivy League field this fall as Team Italy squared off against Harvard.
Italy’s first international tournament was the European championships in 2004, and its first World Championship appearance was in 2006. Ranked 16th by World Lacrosse out of 46 eligible teams, the Italians are coached by Brian Vona.
Vona is the longtime coach at Lincoln-Sudbury (Mass.) High School, where he has won multiple MIAA championships and developed dozens of Division 1 players.
