The Colonial Athletic Association is home to a pair of New England teams in UMass and Fairfield. Both squads are looking to return to prominence in 2022. Not surprisingly, those teams also had two very impactful freshmen that are looking to push the team to that level after stellar rookie campaigns.
UMass is looking to redefine its team identity after a wildly inconsistent spring. The Minutemen were ranked in the top 20 to start the year, but quickly fell out of the rankings after a promising start.
Three straight losses put UMass at 3-4 before briefly going back to .500 with a 21-14 win over Fairfield. Coach Greg Cannella’s squad then dropped its final two games and concluded the season with a 4-6 record.
