EAST HARTFORD, Conn. -- The University of Maryland won the NCAA men's lacrosse championship Monday at Rentschler Field, defeating Cornell, 9-7.
The win capped an undefeated season that cemented the Terrapins' place as a top all-time team.
Both teams got off to a slow start. However, it didn't take long for the Terps to assert their dominance and build an insurmountable lead.
They scored four straight goals at the tail end of the first quarter, and then tacked on a fifth for good measure in the second, to build a 6-1 lead before the 20-minute mark.
