As the Boston Cannons enter a new era at Veterans Memorial Stadium in Quincy, Mass., key roster changes also lie ahead for a club that hasn't made the Major League Lacrosse playoffs since 2015.
On defense, Brodie Merrill, Brandon Mullins and Tim Mueller have all left to join the Premier Lacrosse League, a showcase-centric league with six teams. Last year's No. 1 overall pick, faceoff specialist Trevor Baptiste, has also left for the PLL. Meanwhile, defenseman Mitch Belisle and midfielder Max Seibald both retired after the 2018 season.
The process of patching those holes continued Saturday night, as the Cannons had eight picks in the 2019 Major League Lacrosse Draft, including two in the first round. Head coach and director of player personnel Sean Quirk said he's pleased with the team's selections, especially when added to the team's returning core.
