Brigid Welch didn’t pick up the sport of lacrosse until the seventh grade.
“But since then I haven’t put down my stick,” she said.
Welch, a midfielder at Walpole (Mass.) High School, became the latest junior from the MIAA ranks to finalize her college plans after committing to the University of Massachusetts last week.
She becomes the third junior midfielder -- and second in-state -- to commit to the Minutewomen, following Katie Peterson of Franklin (Mass.) and Bridget Valentine of Massapequa (N.Y.).
