As she mentally lamented a turnover, New Canaan (Conn.) High School coach Kristin Woods glanced back to see what position her defense was in.
Only Devon Russell leapt and caught the pass.
During a season at New Canaan that produced FCIAC and Class L championships, one spectacular sideline catch was merely a filed-away footnote. But it reminded everyone what Russell is capable of on the field.
