Speed is important in lacrosse. But it’s not always the most important thing.
Lauren Herlihy, a junior midfielder at Phillips Andover, has defused the rush of many a speedy attacker by using her strength and agility, and collected many a groundball by using her body to fend off opponents.
Similarly, speed isn’t the end-all, be-all of the recruiting game.
The 5-foot-8 Herlihy (Reading, Mass.) didn’t hear from her preferred suitor – Boston College – on Sept. 1. As BC began locking in other members of its recruiting class early, like standouts Quinn Whitaker and Caroline Chisholm, she had to keep her options open.
