Promising newcomers highlight Western New England’s fall

There are some bedrock characteristics Western New England coach John Klepacki is looking for in an incoming freshman.

Basically, a lot of it comes down to unselfishness. The qualities are not unlike those you look for in a captain, who this year for the Golden Bears is midfielder John Shahpazian.

"If he's being a teammate first. I think it's important that the guys that are successful are the guys that are trying to make the team better and not worry about their own individual aspects," Klepacki said. "You know, 'What am I getting out of it?' Guys that are just enjoying the experience and having fun playing the game. I think having guys that aren't playing showcase lacrosse and they're playing college lacrosse, and playing where it's for the betterment of the team and not looking at evaluating just other guys at the position. Just focusing on being the best version of themselves."

With the benefit of fall ball, Klepacki feels like he has found two freshmen in particular who fit that mold and can help the team right away.
