Flying under the radar in 2022? It’s not often the Deerfield boys lacrosse program enjoys relative anonymity, but by its standards this is it.
After graduating 23 players a year ago, including the likes of Griffin Schutz (Virginia), Tommy Stull (Richmond), Joe Dowling (Harvard), Liam Griffiths (Harvard), Wells Bligh (Brown) and more, Deerfield finds itself out of the mainstream conversation despite returning 15 players, and that's just fine.
“Maybe we’re getting overlooked,” coach Chip Davis said. “It feels like we can be a little unencumbered this year. Last year was not like that; we had a lot of unstated goals hovering over us a year ago.”
The specter of 23 seniors, including massive talent that is taking the NCAA by storm this spring, loomed large last year. The results were outstanding as the team finished undefeated at 12-0 and was widely regarded as the top team in the region. The page was turned quickly after graduation, though.
