Avon Old Farms head coach Eric Fekete knows a thing or two about competing at the highest level of lacrosse.
Spending 17 years on the Division 1 level at Quinnipiac, Fekete was on the sidelines for hundreds of college games before joining the Winged Beavers in 2020.
And in his first season with the program in 2021 — one that saw a new scheduling format in response to the coronavirus pandemic — the coach faced one of his toughest challenges yet. Avon, like the rest of the teams in the Founders League, played two games against the same opponent each weekend in a regular season that spanned less than a month and a half.
“I was really grateful that we played, because I think the kids really needed it — it was a big step in getting back to normalcy for them,” Fekete said. “But would I ever want to do it again? No.”
