It was a physical and grinding affair in a packed Subaru Park in Washington, D.C., as the Waterdogs overcame an early deficit to Chaos and secured their first Premier Lacrosse League title by a score of 11-9 on Sunday.
In a championship matchup between two Connecticut head coaches, Chaos struck early, racing out to a 3-0 lead in the first quarter behind goals from Challen Rogers, Josh Byrne and defenseman Matt Rees.
Waterdogs would answer with a goal from Connor Kelly (Easton, Conn.). Mac O’Keefe and Michael Sowers traded goals from there, and the Chaos held a 4-2 lead at the end of the first quarter.
O’Keefe’s goal was about the last one the Chaos would score for a while. Waterdogs would go on an 8-1 run through the second and third quarters, interrupted only by a Byrne goal near the end of the half.
