The Brown men’s lacrosse program has a history of strong goalie play. Past netminders include All-Americans Dick Alter, Greg Cattrano, Jordan Burke and Jack Kelly.
After the 2018 season, goalie Phil Goss joined that elite group, earning a spot on USILA/Nike All-American team with honorable mention honors.
Despite the high level of play the junior displayed in his first two seasons at Brown, one would not have predicted such successes in his early days.
Goss grew up in San Francisco, where he said the game was not popular when he was a middle-schooler. He was lucky, however, that one of his friends and classmates, Will Emery, had an older brother — former University of Virginia standout Rob Emery — who was a talented lacrosse player.
