Oran Gelinas grew up around lacrosse, but admits freely there was a time when lacrosse was not an important part of his life.
The son of former Wellesley (Mass.) High School coach Chris Gelinas, Oran was close to the game from a young age but never, he noted, had it forced on him.
He began playing with Laxachusetts in the third grade but found it tough to climb the depth chart at his position, goalie. By the time he started middle school, the sport had faded into the background of his teenage life.
“There was a time I wanted to quit, not play lacrosse,” he said. “I didn’t want to play anything. I wanted to sit around and play video games all day.”
