MANALAPAN TOWNSHIP, N.J. -- Gavin Ouhrabka’s path to Faceoff Academy national tournament champion was unorthodox. Not only in terms of his ascendance through the bracket, but his upward trajectory as a player.
A native of Barrington, R.I., Ouhrabka previously played at La Salle Academy before enrolling at New Hampton School this fall. He’s on the taller end of the face-off man spectrum standing just over 6 feet tall.
He’s not built like other face-off guys either -- most of the time they resemble fire hydrants with arms and legs -- but his mastery of technique has helped him set himself apart from the pure power draw men.
It wasn't a surprise to his new coach at New Hampton, Ryan Henry.."
