John Anderson may have lost a few battles during his anticipated faceoff battle, but his Derryfield School team won the war. Another one. It’s now 54 straight wins for the back-to-back-to-back Division 2 champions, who outlasted Portsmouth in the championship game for the second year in a row, an 11-6 win that had a similar feel to last year even if some of the key players were different.
"We had a lot of new guys," noted Anderson, a junior midfielder and Providence College commit. "The whole team, whether it was freshmen, sophomores, juniors, they were all playing for the seniors, to get them one more (title) and send them off."
The Cougars (20-0) beat Portsmouth, 6-5, in the regular season, the closest they came all year to seeing their win streak snapped. They also took a 7-4 win in last year’s final on this field.
