The tone for last year’s men’s lacrosse season at Bowdoin College was set on the first day of practice. And not in a good way.
Attack Donal Mullane, coming off a solid freshman season, broke his thumb, an injury that would sideline him for seven weeks. The injury also seemed to open the floodgates.
Another key attack, Jimmy Young (Exeter, N.H.), suffered a shoulder injury in one of the first games and missed time. So did attack Nick Conway (Westwood, Mass.), and Chris Fowler and Will Murtagh (Marblehead, Mass.) were in and out of the lineup.
Midfielder Sam Langan tore his ACL at midseason. Goalie Jack O’Connor (Stamford, Conn.) and face-off specialist Sam Carlin got hurt, too. It all added up to a season that finished 6-9, with just a 2-8 showing in NESCAC games.
