Nantucket, Mass.

From strong high school teams to international accolades, lacrosse giving island an identity as more than just a summertime destination

Thirty miles due south of the elbow of Cape Cod lies Nantucket, Mass., best known as the idyllic summertime playground of the rich and famous.

During the off season, the permanent residents of the island — about 10,000 in population — recover from the summer crush and resume a life of normalcy. They settle back into daily routines, making a living and raising kids.

In recent years, more and more of those kids are picking up the sport of lacrosse.
