Avon Old Farms coach Eric Fekete stresses the importance of athleticism to any lacrosse player planning to play collegiately.
“You’re going in at 18 and you’re playing against kids that are 21, 22, 23,” said Fekete, the former longtime head coach at Quinnipiac. “Physically it’s a huge stretch, much more so than a 10th-grader to a 12th-grader.”
Two of Avon’s Division 1-bound seniors have taken that advice to heart.
Leo Johnson and Michael Callahan have been spending plenty of time in the weight room in order to add some much-needed muscle. After committing to Division 1 schools in 2019, the two Connecticut natives are prepping for the college game while guiding the Winged Beavers through a competitive New England West.
