MIAA tourney plans receive mixed reactions from coaches

The MIAA Tournament Management Committee’s proposal produced good news and bad news for the state’s high school lacrosse community last week.

The Committee voted -- by a 12-6 count, with one abstention -- to hold sectional tournaments for spring sports. Prior to that it voted against (14-4) holding state tournaments beyond that.

The proposed sectional tournaments would be the first postseason play sponsored by the MIAA since last winter, before the worsening of the pandemic resulted in entire spring seasons getting cancelled. This year, Fall, Winter and Fall II seasons all had (or are having) regular-season play but not holding playoffs.
