The two-time defending MIAA Division 1 champion, the No. 1 team in our preseason power rankings, brushed aside another top team – reigning D-3 champion Medfield – by a 19-3 score on Monday, with senior Lil Hancock (UMass) scoring six goals, and look every bit as dangerous as the squad that dominated in last year’s playoffs.
Westwood has rolled off four straight wins since falling to Canandaigua (N.Y.) in its opener; on Friday it visits a team some feel might be in its weight class this season: Franklin.
The Panthers (4-0) picked up their 100th straight win in the Hockomock League on Monday, beating Canton, 18-3. That led coach Kristin Igoe Guarino to downplay the accomplishment on social media, noting the one-sided outcome of many of the games.
