Six minutes into one of the final games of the regular season – on Senior Day, no less – Lucy Davis, the Michigan-committed best player on the Lincoln-Sudbury (Mass.) girls lacrosse team, stepped awkwardly and tore her ACL.
It was the biggest moment of a non-competitive, 17-2 win over Bedford, and it changed the perception of a Lincoln-Sudbury squad that was 14-0 and enjoying one of its best seasons ever.
Even supporters had trouble staying optimistic.
“They said it to my face: ‘It’s a bummer, Coach, run’s over,’” said L-S coach Kaillie Kelly.
