On the first day of the college lacrosse season, there stood two players who already had won a championship on the surface on which they were standing.
Nickerson Field at Boston University had been a hallmark of success for players from Medfield (Mass.) High School, which had won two of its three state titles on that turf. For former teammates and now opening-day foes John MacLean and Kevin McCordic, playing on that field marked another level of success.
"It was special," MacLean said of winning his last career high school game at Nickerson. "We had won two titles prior to that, one being on Nickerson, but winning it there meant I was looking forward to winning more on that field. It was special because I had known for two years I was going there."
MacLean has gone on to earn a starting role at Boston University (5-5). He’s already eclipsed his goal total from last season (he had 18 over his first nine games) as he’s improved in his second season at the collegiate level.
