The MIAA Division 1 season went down to the final rainy minute a year ago.
The two teams that staged a classic championship game, with Ava Connaughton’s late goal giving Westwood a 6-5 win over Franklin, begin the new season atop the list of contenders again, with new divisional alignments and tournament formats in place.
Girls lacrosse has expanded to four divisions, with sectional tournaments eliminated. In each division, the top 32 teams will be determined by a formula that is roughly one half won-lost record and one half strength of the schedule, and any others that finish at .500 or better also will make what will be statewide tournaments.
It should be interesting.
