Around 6 a.m. most days over the past year, casual passersby would witness Delaney Rodriguez-Shaw (Longmeadow, Mass.), uncorking one shot after another against a recently-installed cement structure at the school. They’d see a young, determined athlete chasing a dream.
However, what most of them don’t know is that goal is already within reach. Come Aug. 1-10, Rodriguez-Shaw will head to the U-19 Women’s Lacrosse World Championship in Peterborough, Canada and represent Puerto Rico on the international stage.
2019 was a building year for the sophomore, as Rodriguez-Shaw played a critical role in leading Longmeadow to the Massachusetts Div. 1 title game June 21 at Babson College. The Lancers fell short of their ultimate goal, losing to Notre Dame Academy of Hingham, 8-7. That defeat continues to drive the rising junior.
