Over the summer, the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS) announced that all states could adopt a shot clock in boys and girls lacrosse starting in 2027.
That left Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association (MIAA) coaches with one big question: Will the MIAA implement the rule change?
In August, I spoke with a handful of coaches around the league about the possibility of adding a shot clock. The support was overwhelming.
That sentiment proved true for both the boys and girls lacrosse committees during Tuesday’s meeting at the MIAA headquarters in Franklin, Mass. But a shot clock won’t be coming to the turf this spring.
MIAA associate director Richard Pearson said that both votes were presented to each committee for a shot clock to start in 2028. He said the girls vote was 7-5-1 in favor, while the boys vote was 13-0-0.
