Most of them will be joining varsity teams for the first time this spring, but there is no shortage of talent in the region’s Class of 2023, as evidenced at the Five Star Elite Lacrosse showcase held over the weekend at IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla.
Nine players from the region were selected as All-Stars at the invitation-only event for current high school and prep school sophomores, which was run by former Johns Hopkins coach Dave Pietramala, and former Loyola University and Maryland coach Dave Cottle.
Julian Targete, a long, lanky, 6-foot-3 midfielder out of Belmont Hill School, was named MVP of the All-Star Game that closed out Saturday night’s program.
A highlight in the game came when he circled behind the goal, came out on the left and fired a right-handed shot into the net while leaping. A Canton, Mass., native who now attends IMG Academy, Targete was one of five New England boys chosen for the National Team Development Program's U-15 team last fall.
