The unplayed lacrosse season of 2020 won’t make the record or history books, but it could be the biggest force in the sport for the next four or five years.
Right now, a lot of the fallout remains speculation, as is appropriate because there is no timeline for when life returns to normal as the coronavirus pandemic finally passes. There’s no way to know as I write this at the end of March the next time anyone will take the field for a game, at any level.
The two pro field lacrosse leagues are planning for their seasons, the indoor National Lacrosse League is coming up with appropriate playoff scenarios to finish a truncated season, the summer tournament circuit is still calling all club players, summer camps and clinics are holding their sign-ups like normal, and college players are looking at options and choices for their playing careers – and lives – that weren’t even a thought blip just weeks ago.
