The New England Black Wolves did not have a first-round pick in the 2018 NLL Entry Draft. The team’s first selection didn’t come until the last selection of the second round (No. 26 overall) and they used it to select Jackson Nishimura from the Toronto Beaches, a Junior A box lacrosse team in Canada.
Black Wolves general manager Rich Lisk seemed pleased to have the opportunity to draft Nishimura.
“He has a tremendous upside,” Lisk said in a release on the team’s website. “He reminds me of a young Colton Watkinson. We did not think we could get him where we did. It worked out perfectly.”
Black Wolves head coach Glenn Clark, who also coached Nishimura with the Beaches, said the rookie was more surprised than Lisk about his draft prospects.
