Sydney Watson knows there were probably more than a few people across the country who did a double-take when they saw this spring's list of the final 25 Tewaaraton Award nominees as the best player in women’s college lacrosse.
Four players from North Carolina? Well, that makes sense. Three apiece from Syracuse and Northwestern? Of course. Two from Florida? OK. Boston College, Drexel, Duke, Maryland, Notre Dame, Stony Brook, Virginia? Right, right, right.
But the University of Connecticut?
“I am sure people are thinking: ‘UConn, what?’” the senior said of being part of women’s college lacrosse’s most exclusive company. “They are not even ranked or anything."
