On Saturday, the Tufts women’s lacrosse team raised its first NESCAC championship trophy after a 14-3 victory over Wesleyan.
However, the build-up to that dominant performance goes back to the 2019 squad. That team lost in the NESCAC championship game to Middlebury, but its run to the NCAA final four that season was the foundation of success that Tufts head coach Courtney Shute leaned on to build this juggernaut.
“We've been building this thing for quite a few years,” said Shute. “I have two assistant coaches on our staff that were on the 2019 team. We made it to the final four and lost in the NESCAC championship by one goal to a very talented, Middlebury team that ended up winning it all.”
