SPRINGFIELD, Va. -- The Boston Cannons went into the PLL Championship Series semifinals coming off a 22-12 loss to the Philadelphia Waterdogs, the largest margin of victory in any game during the tournament’s round-robin stage.
Before their playoff matchup against the California Redwoods -- a team they lost to in overtime, 26-25, in the opener -- Brodie Merrill, in his first role as an assistant coach for the Cannons, went through the roster player by player and described what they would need to do for the team to be successful.
Cannons midfielder Matt Campbell listened intently.
When Merrill got to him, the legendary defender told Campbell to be a finisher and to get to the middle of the field, to not settle for a two-point shot when he could beat his man one-on-one.
